“One day while bird watching in the mountains I picked up a handful of the fragrant needles carpeting the forest floor and enjoyed their spicy scent and natural look.  “Nature is an artist”, I said to myself.  After I retired from teaching Home Economics I found a way to use these natural elements in Pine Needle Basketry.  Thus, “A Stitch in Pine” was born.  I learned how to use black walnut slices, Tenerife woven centers, agates, and raffia wrapping to give variety.  I also learned to dye the needles to add color and diversity.  Every step from gathering pine needles in the forest, to the last stitch on the basket is done with love.”
